2005 Show 2005 Show frequently asked questions

  1. I live far away. Is it worth the drive, train or plane ride?
Philadelphia is a major tourist destination of national and international travelers. There are many other decorative arts venues including The Fabric Workshop (www.fabricworkshop.org), the Clay Studio, Wheaton Village (www.wheatonvillage.org) and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (www.philamuseum.org) which has an extensive permanent decorative arts collection. The city offers a wealth of cultural and historical attractions log onto www.gophila.com for a complete listing.
  2. Is there parking at the Convention Center?
Yes, there are more than 40 lots surrounding the Convention Center. Log on to www.paconvention.com/visit/park.asp for a clickable parking map and directions.
  3. I missed the show, is there a way for me to get a show catalog?
Yes, catalogs can be ordered by calling our office at 215-440-0718. The cost is $5 plus $3 shipping and handling.
  4. How do I pay for purchases made at the show?
Many of our exhibitors accept major credit cards. There is also a credit card kiosk that is operated by show management for customers who make a purchase from an exhibitor who does not accept credit cards.
  5. What if I want something made outside of the exhibitors style?
Our exhibitors are accustomed to doing custom work. The advantage of working with a furniture maker as opposed to buying a manufactured item is the opportunity to work with the artist to make your item unique.
  6. Can I afford this?
There are many items available for purchase at the show for under $100. In addition, handcrafted furniture items are often comparable in price to major national chains such as Ethan Allens and Bloomingdales
  7. What should I bring to show?
So that you can be prepared to make a purchase decision, paintchips, carpet samples, photos, blueprints, measurements and a tape-measure are some suggested items to bring to the show.
  8. Is photography allowed at the show?
That is up to the individual exhibitor. Please ask their permission prior to taking pictures.
  9. Are there gift items at the show?
Our show comes at a convenient time of year, during the wedding season and graduation. Many items available at the show would make appropriate gifts.
  10. I know someone who is interested in the decorative arts. Is it a viable career?
Indeed it is. The furniture show has an apprenticeship section and an education section on our website for those individuals looking for careers in the decorative arts.
  11. What are the Design Smart Seminars?
Artisans, architects, and contractors will share their expertise on specialty topics such as working with a custom woodworker, mold abatement, solar installations, faux finishing and using stained glass in a building project.
  12. Do I have to be a design professional to attend any of the Design Smart Seminars?
While you may find yourself sitting next to a design professional, we welcome the general public at all the Design Smart Seminars.
  13. If I am an architect, can I get continuing education credits for attendance at a Design Smart Seminar?  Yes, go to the AIA Philadelphia website (www.aiaphila.org) for further details.
