- Internship Program
Internships offer meaningful learning
opportunities and on-the-job experiences to college juniors/seniors,
graduate students and recent college graduates who
are interested in beginning careers in arts management and/or arts administration.
An internship at The Philadelphia Furniture & Furnishings Show will provide
you with valuable experience and could lead to your next job in the art world
Through
complementing the work of the staff, the program offers interns the opportunity
to learn the day-to-day workings of a decorative arts organization. In addition,
many colleges offer course credit for an internship -- ask your advisor.
One student will be selected Winter/Spring, January-May semester to participate
in a five month long, part-time internship. Interns will assist in:
- exhibitor relations
- show management
- media relations
- high school design competition
- advertising
- general office support
The intern will, develop a list of
learning objectives and goals that he/she would like to accomplish
as well as being assigned
a project to be completed
during their time at the Philadelphia Furniture & Furnishings Show. A
stipend of $230 per month will be awarded to help defray transportation
and lunch
expenses.
Exhibitor Relations, Show Management
The intern will work with the Show Manager as a liaison between exhibitors and
potential exhibitors and the PFFS. Tasks would include but are not limited to,
contract fulfillment, fielding inquiries, database input and at show management.
Advertising, Media Relations
These areas are designed to market and promote the PFFS to the general public
and to the local and national press. The intern will work with the Promotions
Manager to market the show through the web, print media, television, radio, and
press releases. Interns receive hands-on training in a variety of advertising,
marketing, and press related tasks and are exposed to the team-oriented process
of strategizing and implementing the PFFS marketing and press needs. Intern tasks
might include copy editing, promotional event planning and management, assisting
in the design of print material, developing new media contacts, pitching stories
to press contacts, securing review coverage for show, and various other marketing
related projects as assigned.
High School Design Competition
High school students have the opportunity to participate in the decorative arts
through the creation and presentation of an assigned project. The intern will
assist in the administration of the high school design competition including
during the show. Interns will also provide assistance to students and teachers
in the development of individual and class projects, act as liaison between teachers
and PFFS, supervise setup and break-down of student display to the show.
General Office Support
Intern will assist staff as needed in all support functions in maintaining a
professional office environment. Duties will include, answering phones, mailings,
and responding to e-mails.
