High
School Design
The High School Student
Design Program was designed to educate students and
their families
about the decorative
arts by encouraging student interest and involvement
in the field through a project administered by high
school teachers and highlighted at the Philadelphia Furniture & Furnishings
Show. And for families to experience the Philadelphia
decorative arts community, as a vibrant and supportive
lifestyle enabling
its members to construct lucrative and rewarding
careers. The project is based upon the theme of “the
chair,” the
results of which could be a functional chair, an
impractical chair, a model of a chair, a chair designed
for a specific
purpose or person, or a traditional looking chair
created out of unusual materials — as long as the
object is three-dimensional. Individual schools select
one or
two students from the participating classes whose
work will be exhibited at the Philadelphia Furniture & Furnishings
Show.
